BIO: LAUREL JEAN VLIEG

My life long passions are creating with my hands and encouraging others to create. I have had the privilege to combine these two loves in teaching for much of my career.
Currently, I am a practicing artist and teach classes in ceramics in my home studio to children and adults. I graduated from U of A. with a B.Ed. & a minor in Visual art and began my teaching career in a regular classroom and several years later I became the Art Specialist to Middle School students.
After having two children I returned to school at Emily Carr University of Art & Design with a Ceramic and Painting focus. I have lived in New Zealand with my family and travelled to 8 countries around the world and lived in 2 provinces.
These opportunities have opened my eyes to cultural experiences and the beautiful differences in our world. I have opened my home to people from other countries as a way to bring the world to my family.
My other interests include: Interior design, renovating, working with youth, sewing, reading, walking my dog, sharing a great cup of coffee or preparing a great meal for family or friends!
